KONFIG®
Network Management (KONFIG), a powerful tool for
documenting and administering network infrastructures,
results in reduced costs and improved reliability of
the network. KONFIG is a physical network management
system that enables you to document all aspects of the
network infrastructure (pathways, cable routes, cable/conductor
connectivity, equipment configuration, and circuits)
for enterprise-wide data, voice, and video networks.
In addition to this, KONFIG tracks information on
projects, organizations, contacts, buildings, and asset
information such as lease contracts and maintenance
agreements.

KONFIG is a database driven product because a data
model of the network infrastructure is maintained in
an Oracle® relational database. Network drawings
and diagrams (i.e. graphic views) are easily generated
from the relational database. When changes are made
to the relational database, the network drawings and
diagrams are automatically updated and kept in synch
with the database.
Automatically creating network diagrams (versus manual
creation) can save up to 60% in labor costs. Creating
a network drawing using a traditional CAD drawing tool
can take several hours. With KONFIG the network data
is gathered and input into a relational database once.
At this point, current, dynamic drawings are generated
in a matter of minutes. The savings associated with
dynamic drawing creation can be enormous and increase
as the network changes.
KONFIG is a certified HP® OpenView® application
and is tightly integrated with HP's Network Node Manager
(NNM). Network information discovered by NNM can be
directly loaded into KONFIG's database. KONFIG's
location, configuration, connectivity, asset and circuit
data can all be accessed from within Network Node Manager.
